BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — A safe space was provided at the Bend Police Department Saturday for people to safely dispose of their medications.
This year marks the sixth year for the Medication Take-Back Event, hosted by St. Charles Health System and the Bend Police Department.
“This is important because it keeps it out of the hands of people who might abuse it, while also ensuring that the drug is disposed of safely and that the water table “This is because we can keep drugs away from people.”
People were able to bring in over-the-counter and prescription medications, as well as sharps (old needles).
Eleven boxes of medicine were collected and over 140 vehicles came to deliver the medicine.
The drugs will be weighed on Monday and sent to a processing facility.
“We collect everything here and then it goes to a processing facility where we incinerate the drug under multiple layers of HEPA filters,” Pedersen said.
At last year’s event, people brought in more than 300 pounds of medical supplies and sharps for safe disposal.
