Dr. Stanley’s daughter, Morris, whose mother has been humble about her professional successes, said she is hearing from clinicians far and wide who have used the technology she developed to help patients. He said he was always excited.

Barbara Hlevnack was born in Newark on August 13, 1949. Her father, John Hlevnak, worked as a tool and die manufacturer, and her mother, Marie (Wnukowski) Hlevnak, worked in the claims department of an insurance company.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Montclair State University and a doctorate in clinical psychology from New York University.
She married neuroscientist Michael Edward Stanley in 1970, and together they published many research papers on topics such as informed consent and borderline personality disorder. He died in 1993.
In addition to their daughter, Dr. Stanley, who lived in Chatham, New Jersey, they are survived by a son, Thomas Stanley, and brothers, John Hlebnak, Michael Hlebnak, and Joan Kennedy.
