As temperatures rise and summer approaches, it becomes important to maintain a balanced and healthy lifestyle. According to experts, Ayurveda, the ancient science of life, offers timeless wisdom to keep you cool, hydrated and energized during the hotter months. We asked several experts to share their practical tips and advice on summer wellness, highlighting natural remedies and holistic practices to keep the body, mind and mind in harmony. By adopting these Ayurvedic principles, you can navigate this season with ease and energy.
In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Vidhwavas Gaur, an Ayurvedic practitioner from Jaipur, revealed that Vata tends to increase in summer, which leads to heat stroke. He advises, “During summer, the intense sunlight reduces Sreshma in the body and increases Vata. It is best to eat sweet, easily digestible cereals and drink plenty of water. Roasted barley flour (Sattu) mixed with sugar and water is a great daily option. It is also important to avoid alcohol during this time. Indulge in rasala (sweet yogurt), raga (sweet and salty syrupy drink), sadhava (fruit syrup) and panak (tamarind and jaggery water chilled in an earthen pot). Sweet and sour panak made with unripe mango, phalsa, dates, grapes and berries, plus jaggery and tamarind, is also effective.”
Keshav Agarwal, Director, Cannarma, emphasised the importance of harnessing the power of nature to promote good health during summers. He suggested, “Using hemp kumkumadi oil and hemp aloe vera gel can provide natural relief and help maintain balance. Rose water for body and face care also helps to cool the skin and keep it hydrated. For hair care, hemp hair oil is a great choice. Hemp seed oil can be used for skin care as well as an edible oil for nourishment. These natural remedies will effectively maintain your overall health during the harsh summers.”
Vaibhav Jain, CEO, AayushBharat shared practical tips to stay balanced during the hot season. He advised, “Considering that temperatures have already crossed 50 degrees this summer in some parts, it is important to avail the benefits of both Ayurveda and Ayush treatments in general. In addition to staying hydrated, consume plenty of Ayurvedic drinks like Triphala and Amla juice which help restore internal coolness. Do yoga for at least 30 minutes in the morning. Apply liberal amounts of aloe vera gel to protect the skin from the UV rays of the sun. Include Ayurvedic whole foods in your diet and avoid heavy and greasy foods,” he advised.
During summers, it is essential to stay hydrated, seek shade and incorporate Ayurvedic practices into your daily life. Experts claim that following Ayurvedic remedies and treatments can keep you healthy and balanced. Embrace Ayurvedic wisdom to stay active, cool and energetic in summer, stay indoors during the hotter hours, drink plenty of water and warm up with cool seasonal foods to stay healthy and happy.
