Portage, Michigan (WKZO AM/FM) — A new Mental Health Coordinator has joined Portage Public Schools to support both students and staff.
Marianne Joynt started her new role as Mental Health Coordinator at Portage Public Schools on December 5th. She joined the Department of Educational Support and Interventions following her job as a liaison to the Integrated Services District of Kalamazoo, which conducts school-based consulting.
With a master’s degree in Counseling and Psychology, Joint believes her holistic role is to promote the health and resilience of students, staff and parents.
Joynt stresses that normal, everyday problems have intensified as the pandemic has changed the situation dramatically over the past few years. And she offers this advice to both her students and parents.
Director of Educational Support and Interventions, Dr. Jeanene Mattson-Gearhart, said the school district is fortunate to have Joynt join the PPS staff.
Joynt’s position will be paid for by Federal At-Risk Funding.
