Arnold Schwarzenegger has never been shy about sharing his experiences, insights, and expertise with his fans on how to eat and train to maintain a healthy physique at any age. In a recent Q&A, he answered a question about his approach to gaining or losing size for movie roles, given his aversion to tracking macronutrients.
“I call it turning the dial,” he wrote. “You add a little bit, you cut a little bit, you cut a little bit, you add a little bit…see how it goes and turn the dial further if you need to.”
Schwarzenegger has previously said he tends to avoid counting calories, saying he has “no idea” of his average daily calorie intake and what his mood or physical results indicate. He revealed that he often thinks only about the following: I just turned the dial without really knowing anything. ”
During the same Q&A, Schwarzenegger was asked about his approach to weight loss during his competitive bodybuilding days and what he did besides adjusting his diet. “After the morning lift, I just run two miles on the sand,” the Mr. Olympia champion replied. “I wasn’t cutting like some of today’s athletes. Three months before the contest, I was gaining and gaining weight while trying to stay toned. I didn’t cut it like some of the athletes today. He weighed less, the opposite of modern bodybuilders.
Schwarzenegger’s diet has changed dramatically from what he called his “garbage” days, with an emphasis on greens and greens. He’s also an advocate of a meat-free lifestyle for environmental and personal health reasons, and believes you can get enough protein from alternative sources to build muscle.
