  • Americans’ use of prescription drugs will continue to rise, according to a new study from Pennsylvania State University.

  • Girls born in 2019 can expect to take at least one prescription drug for 60% of their lives.

  • Research shows that boys born in the same year are expected to take prescription drugs for about 48 percent of their lives.

Americans will take prescription drugs for longer periods of time in the future, according to a recent report Penn State Research.

According to the study, Americans born in 2019 will spend about half of their lives taking prescription drugs, and American men and women will spend 48% and 60% of their lives taking prescription drugs, respectively. It is predicted that

This adds up to about 47.5 years, or 37 years for women.

“As an American, I want to know what drugs I’m putting in my body and how long I can expect to take them,” Professor Jessica Ho, the study’s principal investigator, told Press stated in a release.

“The number of years people spend taking prescription drugs is longer than the number of years they spend in first marriage, education, or the workforce. It’s important to recognize that.”

Prescription drug use among Americans has been increasing for years, and that increase is due to the increased availability and use of generic drugs, the magazine said. Congressional Budget Office.

According to the latest data, about 49 percent of Americans use at least one prescription drug. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to CDC data, 24% take at least three prescription drugs, and about 13% take five or more.

The difference in the amount of time men and women spend taking prescription drugs is due, in part, to the average age at which each gender begins taking prescription drugs.

The study found that while most American men are taking at least one prescription drug by age 40, women on average begin taking prescription drugs much younger, at age 15. found.

This age difference is partly related to the use of hormonal birth control and birth control by teenage girls, Ho said. It’s also because young women use more painkillers and psychotherapeutic drugs than young men to treat depression, anxiety and ADHD, Ho added.

Professor Ho used data on 15,000 American households collected by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the CDC from 1996 to 2019 for his research.
