STATEN ISLAND, NY — Between 2016 and 2018, 33-year-old Megan Gall lost 100 pounds. This not only made the North Shore resident happy with his appearance, but also greatly improved his self-confidence.
“I’ve learned to say ‘yes’ to more opportunities and activities than ever before and slowly but surely have the power to change lives,” said the North Shore resident. “And when I decided that all foods belonged to a healthy lifestyle, I improved my relationship with food.
What Galia learned from her weight loss journey was how to cook healthy meals. I have decided to make this my mission in life.
That’s why this former long-term substitute teacher decided to become a health coach and start her own business.
“Many of us find it difficult to deal with the ‘food’ part of our lives. We have to be careful with our budgets.” We have to feed ourselves and our families every day when we have little time to spare. We love food and want to enjoy it. We also want food to nourish us and keep us healthy,” said Gaul, a former tutor and director of a tutoring center.
“It’s a tall order, and it’s no wonder so many people always feel like they’re dropping the ball on eating in a healthy and nutritious way.” I also feel a lot of guilt and frustration. We eat out too much, or our home-cooked meals feel unhealthy or “unprocessed.” I want to help take some of the work off people’s plates.I also want to empower people to move toward their health goals without feeling guilty or frustrated. Eating should be fun,” she added.
Apply teacher tactics
Galia said the same traits that made her a good teacher also contributed to her becoming an effective health coach.
“I originally became a teacher because I relied on my strengths in listening, emotional intelligence, organization, and analytical/critical thinking. I’ve incorporated these “teacher” skills into all my interactions with clients, fellow maintainers, or new people who need advice. said Gaul.
“This experience drew me to health coaching because I learned a lot about how to make the weight loss process easier, lighter and more enjoyable,” she added.
Services provided
Gaul said her health coaching service is for people who “want to lose weight and get healthier but continue to face obstacles when trying to improve their diet.”
Gaul offers four different services.
Highly tailored 1-week or 2-week meal plan: Gaul says planning your meals for the week is a great way to “dip your toes” in your journey to health.
The meal plan was devised by Gaul after a consultation in which he learned about the client’s health goals. “Then create a meal plan for a week or two that includes a bunch of ‘go-to’ meals that will help you move toward your health goals over time,” she said.
One-on-one or small group health coaching: “After completing a three-month coaching package, you will start off with a whole new kind of confidence. You will have powerful new tools and habits that will transform how you live a healthier lifestyle,” she said. rice field.
Coaching, she said, takes place in a 45-minute phone or video session, and the client leaves with “a specific action item.” “These action items consistently move you closer to your goals and develop important self-knowledge. We conduct experiments to really test if the elements of your plan fit into your life.
Workshops on health, nutrition and meal planning: Gaul teaches 30- and 45-minute workshops for adults on the topics of behavior change, strategies for sustainable and self-compassionate weight loss, weight maintenance, and meal planning.
Cooking classes for children or adults: Galia believes that “food should be enjoyed and celebrated.” She also hosts her STEAM topical cooking classes for kids at her FasTracKids in Grasmere.Galia has the following children’s Cooking camp during spring break.
