If you want to eat healthy but are tired of looking for ways to make your fruit bowl taste or look more interesting, acai bowls are the answer. Acai bowls are not only really delicious, but they also have a variety of benefits.
Fruits, nuts, juice, almond milk…you can add whatever you like to the bowl. Health Shots reached out to nutritionist Garima Goyal to tell us everything you didn't know about acai bowls.
What is an acai bowl?
Acai bowls are fruit bowls with a twist. It typically starts with a base made from frozen acai berries, which are native to the Amazon rainforest. Popular in some countries. However, in India, acai is grown only in the state of Kerala, otherwise acai is available in the form of freeze-dried powder or puree.
“First, we mix the frozen acai berries with other fruits such as bananas and berries. After this, we add a liquid base such as apple juice, coconut water, or almond milk. The result is a thick, rich liquid with a vibrant purple hue. You will get a smooth and creamy mixture, which will serve as the base for the bowl,” explains Goyal.
Next, my favorite part: the topping. Toppings play an important role in enhancing both flavor and texture. “Common toppings include granola for crunch, sliced bananas, berries, coconut flakes, chia seeds, and nuts for texture and nutritional value,” says Goyal.
