A study on Parkinson’s and exercise affirms I’m on the right track

by Universalwellnesssystems

For the past few weeks, I’ve been suffering from post-holiday blues. I’ve also been training for a 5K road race in June. Both of these things left me exhausted. All you can think about is when you can take a nap, go to bed, or wake up. Hmm.

Last weekend, something changed and I felt encouraged and hopeful. It happened after reading one of the more optimistic books article We have looked at the effects of exercise on Parkinson’s disease. Before I knew it, I was texting and emailing friends and family saying, “I hope you get better!” I couldn’t help myself. I was so excited.

Pilot study published in npj parkinson’s disease In February, researchers suggested that exercise may not only slow the progression of Parkinson’s disease but also reverse some of its damage. All the exercise I was doing seemed like it was actually a good use of my time.

This study was small and only looked at people who were diagnosed recently, but I thought maybe the next study could include people like me who were diagnosed a few years ago. .

we will do everything we can

One of the things that bothers me about this hellish disease is that researchers say the damage begins years before symptoms appear. How do we deal with years of damage? You can’t do that, but you can start slowing the progression as soon as you’re diagnosed and do your best to fight the disease now. We still have many years ahead of us, so why not make them the best they can be?

I understand that everyone is different. Luckily, my worst symptoms have always been tremors, and apparently tremors are one of the most common targets for deep brain stimulation (DBS). Also, even though he was relatively young at 54 years old when he was diagnosed in 2015, I had a great neurologist who listened to my story and supported me through his DBS in 2021. There’s a doctor.

What I’m saying here is do the best you can and don’t give up hope. Try to surround yourself with people who support you and make you feel good. Be grateful and learn about Parkinson’s disease. Just like running, dealing with the daily disruption caused by Parkinson’s disease is a bit of a mental game, and posture is key.

Well, it’s week 5 of training and yes, I’m still tired. But now I’m more motivated. I have unrealistic expectations for myself, but I don’t care. I have goals, plans, and incentives. nothing can stop me.
