Thanks to Cass Pook (ADN, Dec 18) for sharing his experience at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute. It was refreshing to read an article that contributed to the positive outlook for such an important resource in our community.Unfortunately, over 50% of adults will be diagnosed with a mental illness during their lifetime. 1 in 15 of her will experience serious mental illness requiring hospitalization.

As a licensed clinical social worker, I take comfort in knowing that this important asset exists in Alaska for clients who require more intensive mental health care than an outpatient therapist can provide.Ms Pook welcome social his workers into his community.
