What do you think about the future of therapeutic innovation in dermatology?
I am excited about all the treatments that are coming to dermatology. We are talking about personalized treatments for specific types of ailments. And I think immunology is really catching up with what we’re doing in the clinic. What was once impossible is now possible. So this is a really exciting time.
We are advancing medicine more rapidly than in the past, when research was mostly done in silos. In small groups, groups of 8 to 20 people, working things out in labs, we are now in the big medical arena where big companies and organizations are looking to big data. They are combined with machine learning and artificial intelligence.
So I think we can start working on some of these very complex medical skin conditions and really start unraveling the subtleties that we couldn’t see or understand with a small microscope. But now we have the power to start figuring out how genetics really play a role with the environment and so on. in the department.
