Rizzo opened up about his battle with depression at a concert in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
The singer revealed that she reached a low point in 2023 after facing a sexual harassment lawsuit.
“I’ve given a name [my album ‘Love in Real Life’] About a year and a half ago… I was in very dark and deep depression,” Rizzo told the crowd at Wiltern Theatre.
“I was so saddened by the world and so deeply hurt, so I didn’t want to see it because I didn’t want to live anymore, so I was so afraid of people.”
About damn time The singer explained that her experience at the concert would help her change her perspective. “A miraculous thing happened as I was walking through the crowd to get to my place. Someone I didn’t know looked at me and said, ‘Lizzo, I love you.’ And they reached out, I came back, and we held it and it felt so good,” she said.
She described the moment as “f-saving a life.”
“And after that experience, I thought, “Damn, you can’t get this s. On the internet, this is the love you only get in real life.”
The singer could potentially share her story and reach someone who deals with “depression, darkness, or someone who felt betrayed by someone they trusted or lying to lie and hated.”
In August 2023, Rizzo was hit by sexual assault lawsuits by several former background dancers. She denied the allegations and called them “outrageous” and “unbelievable.”
More allegations of sexual harassment followed, including a lawsuit from former stylist Asha Daniels.
It was reported in December 2024 that Daniels’ lawsuit had been withdrawn. Sources close to Rizzo refused to resolve the issue, saying the singer “will not stop fighting “false” allegations.”
The truth hurts The crooner is still facing multiple ongoing lawsuits from former employees who claim sexual and racial harassment and a toxic work environment. She argues that the allegations against her are false.
