For decades, doctors have warned Americans not to over-snatch fast food. So it was impressive to see a US Department of Health and Human Services secretary sitting on a burger and sitting on a french fries. National TV this week.

While waiting for a meal at Florida Steak’n Shake, Robert F. Kennedy explained to Fox News host Sean Hannity that if Americans start consuming more of what they call “traditional” ingredients like beef vets, they’ll become healthier.

Kennedy inspired his stakin shakes to cook the fries. Cooked fat was phased out from the fast food chain about 35 years ago for Heart Attack survivor Phil Sokolof The campaign has started Against saturated fat.

Steak n’Shake explained the change “rfk’ing” friesand Kennedy hopes more restaurants will follow that lead, Discussion Its seed oil fuels the obesity epidemic.

“We’re addicted to ourselves, and we mostly come from these ultra-processed foods,” Kennedy told Hannity, continuing to cite statistics about high levels of chronic disease in the US sky.

After a while, he took a bite of the crispy French fries and said, “People are raving about these fries.

A nutrition scientist drops his jaw on his TV appearance. The rate of obesity and diet-related chronic diseases has been rising for years and is associated with poor diet.

Another type of fried oil says this calorie-rich and cholesterol-rich food doesn’t make it healthy Christopher Gardnera nutrition scientist at Stanford University School of Medicine.

“People should eat fewer fries, whatever they’re fried,” he says.

He points out that other saturated fats, such as tallow and butter in beef, can lead to arteries and high cholesterol, a risk factor for heart disease and stroke. And although seed oil is a component of many highly processed foods, such as potato chips and frozen dinners, this is not the reason why these foods are unhealthy, he adds.

NPR contacted Kennedy’s team for comment but received no response.

Dr. Dariush Mozaffariana cardiologist and food principal is Tufts University’s Medical Institute and is pleased that Kennedy is worried about the outbreak of ultra-processed foods and diet-related illnesses.

But “concerns about seed oil are really distracting and we need to focus on the real issues,” he says.

The real villain is, according to Mozafarian, an excess of refined grains, starch, sugar, salt and other preservatives, chemical additives, and contaminants from packaging, an excess of refined grains, sugar.

“Seeds are actually bright places,” he says. “Seeds are healthy fats, healthy monosaturated, polyunsaturated fats, and are really good for our bodies.”

He points out that seed oil is well studied and has “incredible evidence” of health benefits, including studies showing that it is linked to lower cholesterol levels and heart disease. Randomized trials have shown that consuming seed oil does not cause inflammation.

Gardner is troubled by Kennedy using his platform as a health secretary to promote fast food, and fears that it will lead some people to think it’s okay to eat more of it. (Kennedy turned his back to prominently a milkshake brought to the table with Steak n’Shake, but Honity ordered him to take down one burger already before Kennedy arrived and eat it with him.)

Excessive sugar, fat and salt, as Gardner points out, makes fast and packaged foods “overparate” and encourages overeating.

He says he wants to warn Kennedy that “people are following your instructions.”

“If people are eating more burgers and more fries, they’re going to die, even though they’re currently riding tallow instead of seed oil.”

And the stakinshake has positive advertising electricity in the Maha circle – Laura Rumer Recently visited a chain restaurant to try some fries. 1 Tiktok user He praised the chain for “riding with healthy oils.” It’s a small case of tallow cleaning.

In an emailed statement, Steak’n Shake told NPR that the food manufacturer will still be frozen using vegetable oil and shipped to the store. He said he is working to remove these oils from the supply chain “as soon as possible.”
