PORTSMUTH — People looking for new ways to improve their health may find answers at a new Portsmouth clinic that focuses on overall health through nutritional counseling. Dr. Michael Blackman, Portsmouth, New Hampshire opened Complementary Applied Nutrition at 27 Albany St. The clinic focuses on creating customized diet and supplement programs designed for individual patient needs. Dr. Blackman sees patients of all ages and backgrounds, and many suffer from fatigue, weight gain, inflammation, depression/anxiety, insomnia, hormonal issues, immune support, skin conditions, and digestive issues. Dr. Blackman was previously based in Dover, New Hampshire, where he practiced chiropractic for over 20 years. While he was in school, he also gave nutritional counseling. After seeing the benefits to his patients, he decided to specialize in the functional medicine aspect and moved to Portsmouth where he could more easily see clients from Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

Tom Rafio honored with 2022 Eric Cogswell Memorial Award Seacoast Mental Health Center
CONCORD — Tom Raffio, President and CEO of Northeast Delta Dental, received the 2022 Erik Cogswell Memorial Award from Seacoast Mental Health Center, Inc. on Thursday, November 10th. Tom was recognized for his leadership and advocacy for high quality, accessible mental health care. The annual award was co-founded by Karin and Ed Cogswell in memory of his son Eric, who committed suicide in November 1999. Since then, they have worked with his SMHC to provide education, support and resources to people living with and recovering from bipolar disorder.
Last spring, legislative leaders from both parties voted to provide the first-ever dental benefits to up to 88,000 adult Medicaid recipients, and Gov. Sununu signed the bill into law on July 7, 2022. . Tom Raffio, along with other supporters, has been working on Merit for over 20 years.
“Tom has dedicated much of his professional career and personal life to investing in the greater community focused on the importance of mental health,” said Clinical Operations Director, Adult Services, Seacoast Mental Health Center. Vice President Patty Driscoll said. “Through his leadership and advocacy, positive change has been brought about across NH State that has improved access and quality of mental health services. It has directly impacted the Medicaid population who have benefited greatly from the service.”
“We recognize that access to regular dental care can have a significant impact on individuals living with mental and behavioral health problems, and our 25 years of education and advocacy I am very grateful that I have been rewarded,” Tom explained.
Since 2009, SMHC has presented this award annually to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to improving the lives of individuals living with and recovering from bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses. .
