Opinion polls show that one in 10 women are taking weight-loss drugs, and almost three-quarters are considering taking them.

A survey of 1,000 women aged 30 to 75 found that most are considering taking products such as Wigobee and Munjaro to lose weight this year.

But many women admitted they only do it secretly to avoid the “stigma” surrounding weight loss, which is not just the result of diet and exercise.

Of those who take drugs, one in five (19%) admitted to taking them without anyone knowing, but more than a third (35%) admitted to someone close to them. I replied that I would just tell him.

Almost nine out of 10 people (86%) said they had tried multiple diets or weight loss programs to lose weight.

Difficulty maintaining a consistent diet is the biggest barrier to weight loss, followed by lack of time for regular exercise, mental health and motivation, according to research commissioned by digital weight loss service Juniper. followed.

The Obesity Health Alliance (OHA) estimates that 4.1 million people in England are eligible for NHS Wegovy. The scheme requires you to have a BMI of 30 or above and at least one associated health condition, such as type 2 diabetes.

But so far only a few thousand people are believed to be receiving this treatment through NHS specialist weight management services, with the rest usually using online pharmacies.

The NHS has started prescribing Munjaro, but concerns over cost and capacity to administer it have limited the number of patients to 220,000 over the next three years.
