GRAND RAPIDS, MI — A Grand Rapids counseling center offers clients the opportunity to address their mental and physical health at the same time.
happinessThe therapy, which opened in 2011, incorporates exercise as part of mental health treatment.
“I think being mentally healthy is an important part of being well-being, as we all know, and vice versa,” said Brendan Kelly, owner of The Well Being. I explained. “The more I read about it, the more I realized that this is a legitimate, evidence-based mental health treatment.”
Clinicians at The Well Being offer a variety of traditional treatments in addition to an on-site fitness center.
Clients can work out for free before and after their therapy sessions.
“We’ve seen a really dramatic improvement,” Kelly said. “I’ve always said this is the best mental health drug on the market today, and it has the best side effects in the world.”
Clients first meet with the center’s fitness director for an exercise treatment planning session.
Personal training sessions are also available for an additional fee.
“Through research, it is well known that it helps produce feel-good chemicals such as dopamine and serotonin,” explained Mike Zimmer of Wellbeing Fitness. director. “It’s about building discipline and building consistency to keep going, whether it’s tough times at home or whatever.”
Megan Amante has been working out at The Well Being for over a year.
A Mitten Brewing Company employee told FOX 17 News it has improved her life in many ways.
“Instead of just hoping things get better, you feel a little more positive and feel less stressed,” she said. “I realized that no matter what situation I was in, there were things I could control to help change.”
What’s more, Amante said she has lost 25 pounds.
Prioritizing her health is also becoming a lifestyle.
“When you’re stressed, you want things that are better for you,” she explained. “Instead, I binge eat or take a nap. I want to go outside for a run or a walk or get on a yoga mat. And I definitely do yoga. “I feel like you should take care of yourself in a better way.” ”
