Myth Buster:

mythology: All fats are unhealthy…or are they?

truth: Saturated and trans fats found in fatty meats, high-fat dairy products, fried foods, and processed snacks can have many negative effects when consumed in excess, including weight gain, high cholesterol, and increased risk of heart disease and heart disease. may have an effect. stroke. On the other hand, healthy fats can actually improve your cholesterol levels and reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease.

Foods that contain healthy fats include nuts, vegetable oils, avocados, peanut butter, salmon, sardines, and seeds such as chia and sunflower seeds.

To reduce unhealthy fats on Hanukkah, try substituting avocado oil or olive oil for canola oil.

Wellness wisdom:

Did you know that germs from a sneeze can travel up to 25 feet within 22 seconds, and droplets from a cough can travel up to about 6 feet? Always cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze. Be aware of others who have a cold.

Exercises for mind and body:

Recent snowstorms and sub-zero temperatures have left many people feeling reluctant to go outside or move around as much, and they may not be getting as much exercise as they need. Even if you can’t do a full workout, stretching daily can help keep your muscles flexible and strong.

One of the easiest stretches to do is this hamstring stretch.

Lie on the floor and place your left foot next to the wall or door frame. Raise your left leg and place your heel against the wall, slowly stretching your leg until you feel a stretch in your thigh. Hold the stretch for 30 seconds, then switch to the opposite leg.
