MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A former paramedic was sentenced to one year and one day in federal prison for injecting himself with Benadryl while on the job and contaminating the vial in an attempt to conceal it.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Cleola Hogan, 40, of Cordova, was on duty as an EMT on March 20, 2022, when she used a syringe to remove Benadryl from a vial and inject it into her arm.

Hogan then added saline to the vial and glued the cap back on, attempting to hide any evidence of misuse.

Benadryl is often used to treat severe allergic reactions.

On September 3, 2024, Hogan pled guilty to tampering with a consumer product with reckless disregard for endangering death or bodily injury to another person.

On Wednesday, Hogan was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

Hogan was also ordered to undergo drug treatment and mental health treatment and counseling.
