Let the woman and her doctor decide

Re: “Pro-choice mistakes drove voters away,” by Joshua Whitfield, Opinion, November 15th.

Mr. Whitfield was quite harsh in his criticism of pro-choice voters, suggesting that in his view the entire movement was “politicized hedonism.” He spoke of a regime that was “willing to kill unborn children.” That’s a very broad accusation.

For many Catholic pro-choice supporters, myself included, I reject that judgment. For many of us, reproductive rights mean the right to health care, including abortion when certain circumstances apply. I believe that if a woman’s life is at risk, if the fetus is not viable, or if it is already dead inside her body, she should make that decision alone with her doctor. . This is not a government mandate.

opinion

Get smart opinions on topics that matter to North Texas residents.

What I’m saying is that absent these extremely difficult circumstances, you can make a moral argument that abortion is wrong. If you’re a Catholic priest, I’m sure you would too. But I also dispute that. No one knows the situation of pregnant women considering abortion.

Basically, it’s a matter between her and God. There’s no one else.

mouth full of cavities

Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo has recommended that the state government stop adding fluoride to its water supply. This supports Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s assertion that fluoride should not be added to water. I don’t know why Kennedy is concerned about this issue, and I don’t care.

What I do know is that when I moved to Hawaii at age 15, I didn’t have a single cavity. At that time, the water there was not fluoridated and my oral health did not change, yet within three years 18 of my teeth had at least small cavities.

Is it simply caused by moving from a place where fluoride is contained in the water to a place where it is not? I don’t know, but I can’t help but think it played a big role in my cavity-ridden mouth.

Mr. Kennedy holds unsubstantiated theories about many aspects of health and would be dangerous to the well-being of our nation if he were confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services. We deserve better.

Minimize Trump’s victory

Re: “Trump’s victory is not a complete landslide — his margin was small by historical standards, even in the 2000 election” Tuesday news article.

Readers can’t help but wonder when they see yet another PolitiFact check on President-elect Donald Trump. Where is the balance? What do you mean? Why does PolitiFact not only downplay the president-elect’s victory, but also allow other Republican wins to be trumpeted in its articles?

Please give the new government a fair chance. Stop trivializing victory. In fact, the majority of our country wants a stronger economy, lower food prices, energy independence, safer regions, and secure borders.

Dallas readers continue to deserve fair and balanced reporting. PolitiFact is not a conduit.

crowd limits

Re: “The Promise of Freedom is Broken,” by John Erickson, Monday Letters.

Erickson says, “The promise to the masses, desperate to breathe free, is gone…We can no longer keep the promise.” Why not? Is there a good reason?

Let’s look at some statistics: In 1886, there were 1.5 billion people in the world and 50,189,209 in the United States. There are currently 8.2 billion people in the world and 335,893,238 people in the United States. The question is: How many of the 8 billion people in other countries want to come to our country? How many people do you think you can accommodate? The promise of limited and legal entry remains. There must be a limit.

Payment of medical expenses

Re: “Double Health Shock” by Dave Lieber, Sunday Metro column.

As a retired physician, health insurance policy expert, and cancer patient who has received tremendous care and support from family and friends, I have found a solution for cancer patients who find replacement insurance when their carrier dies. We are very happy that the watchdog informed us that it was a success. To go out of business.

Elections, immigration, inflation, Ukraine, the Middle East and more have relegated health care to the bottom of conservative concerns after failing to repeal Obamacare. I take no pleasure in reminding the public that the privatization of health care, the control of for-profit insurance companies, is a disaster that will only get worse.

We can provide quality care to everyone at an affordable cost, but it currently doesn’t seem to be on the radar screen of many policymakers. Health care through jobs was supposed to be a temporary approach to combating inflation during the Truman administration, which included a wage price freeze.

what teeth What has been successful is Medicare for all and private insurance for those who can afford it. Done right, Medicare and Social Security are just two examples of government doing what’s best for workers and retirees.

discredit our school

My concerns about public school teachers taking over my family’s work of teaching Bible stories to children are at least twofold. First, most people are not qualified by practice, belief, or education. Second, the typical story is further reduced to become another cartoon series in children’s minds.

Perhaps this curriculum is the result of Christians failing to faithfully live out the message of the story. If this curriculum is so good, why does the state government have to bribe people with money to take advantage of it? Discrediting public schools in this way is not a Christian thing to do. No, it’s the opposite.
