Robbie Williams says he is feeling “fantastic” after over a decade of battling mental health.

The Let Me Entertain You singer, 50, has a well-documented history of depression and has also battled drug and alcohol abuse.

Speaking on the red carpet at the European premiere of his film “Better Man” on Wednesday, Williams said there is “beauty” at the end of struggles like his.

The music star is the subject of a biopic with a twist, with the former Take That member played by a CGI chimpanzee. This is a comment about how he feels like a “performance monkey.”

“We are becoming much more knowledgeable about mental health, where to go and what to do,” Williams said.

“Just know this: It took me almost decades to get over it, but I’m on the other side now, and it’s beautiful.

“And there’s a beauty at the end of that struggle that I feel is amazing.”

Last year, Williams reflected on her career in the spotlight in a self-titled Netflix documentary about her success.

Regarding what he learned from this project, he said: “What I knew before the documentary and film was that I was incredibly ambitious, and these were the tools I needed to leverage to propel me into my third act. ”My career.

“I also realized that I shared quite a lot with the person I used to be. And I’m a different person now, and I much prefer who I am now.”

Michael Gracey, the director of “The Better Man” and who also directed the musical “The Greatest Showman,” said that Williams often described himself as a “acting monkey” in preparatory interviews for the film. Ta.

“To paint him as an ape…we did a series of interviews over a year and a half,” he said.

“And when you listen back to those interviews, he would say, ‘I was just in the back performing like a monkey,’ or ‘They dragged me up on stage and performed like a monkey. I was just giving a performance.”

“And when I thought there was definitely something about Rob looking at himself like a performing monkey, he said it over and over again.

“And then you get back to him and you realize whether he’s trying to be the tough kid in Stoke-on-Trent and whether he wants his father to look at him the same way[Frank]Sinatra did. His whole life has been a performance.

“So the idea of portraying him as a sort of acting monkey felt really exciting creatively.”
