NYC Health + Hospitals announced today that Dr. Jose A. Pagan, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Svetlana Lipyanskaya, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. Christopher Mastromano, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and North Central Bronx; Dr. Jasmine Moshirpour, former chief medical officer of NYC Health + Hospitals in Elmhurst; Dr. Taliyah Schwartz, President and CEO of Metro Plus Health. and Dr. Mitchell Katz, president and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals, from PoliticsNY and amNY Metro.Power players in healthcare in 2024. ” This list celebrates health care leaders who work tirelessly to uplift all New Yorkers and help them live longer, healthier lives. Dr. Jose A. Pagan is professor and chair of the Department of Public Health Policy and Management at New York University’s School of Global Public Health. He also serves as Chairman of the Board of NYC Health + Hospitals, the nation’s largest municipal health system. He has led research, implementation, and evaluation projects on the redesign of healthcare delivery and payment systems. Dr. Pagan is a member of the National Academy of Medicine. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Interdisciplinary Association of Population Health Sciences and the American Association of Health Economists.
Svetlana Lipyanskaya, MPA, FACHE is the first female trailblazer to lead the executive team at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health. She has deftly navigated the hospital through the challenges of COVID-19 and recovery while setting up a state-of-the-art inpatient facility. By securing critical funding for critical infrastructure projects, she is rebuilding access to health care in our communities. Her bold strategic vision prioritizes the development of comprehensive medical and behavioral outpatient services, and truly embodies the mission of NYC Health + Hospitals. Recognized as a leader, Svetlana has been featured in City and State’s Brooklyn Power 100, honored in Becker’s Hospital Review, and celebrated on the floor of the New York State Legislature for her impact in transforming health care. .
Christopher Mastromano is CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and North Central Bronx and has more than 35 years of progressive experience in hospital operations and patient care management. Mr. Mastromano oversees a budget of more than $950 million and a staff of more than 4,000 people. Under his leadership, both facilities were combined into a one-hospital, two-campus model to provide quality health care to Bronx residents. Previously, he served as COO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Gouverneur, Gouverneur.
Dr. Jasmine Mosirpour is chair emeritus and professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Previously Chief Medical Officer of Elmhurst Hospital and Queen’s Hospital, she pioneered a women’s preventive care program, a cancer center of excellence, and a thriving midwifery program. She actively mentors women through Mount Sinai’s Office of Gender Equality. Her awards include the Jacobi Medallion, Glamor Woman of the Year, and Harvard University Iranian Society Honoree.
Talya Schwartz, MD, is President and CEO of Metro Plus Health, a role she has held since 2019. During her tenure, Metro Plus Health’s membership grew 35% and earned a 5-star rating from the NYS Consumer Guide. She spearheaded MetroPlusHealth’s transformation by bringing behavioral health services in-house, overhauling its website and portal, modernizing legacy technology, and expanding virtual visits to more than 700,000 members. I did. Her work to address social determinants of health in New York City’s most vulnerable communities is the culmination of her leadership. She is a mother of two daughters.
Dr. Mitchell Katz is President and CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals. Dr. Katz will lead the public through a number of new initiatives to expand access to primary care services, reduce administrative costs, invest in more front-line clinical staff, and build financial stability. We have focused on advancing the transformation of the healthcare system. Previously, he served as director of the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. Prior to coming to Los Angeles, Dr. Katz served for 13 years as Director and Health Officer of the San Francisco Department of Health. He is a graduate of Yale University and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Katz also practices as a primary care physician.
