This landmark event aims to strengthen diagnostic, treatment and support systems for conjoined twins around the world.
Under the Patronage of the King Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saudthe two-day conference will be hosted by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) in collaboration with the Ministry of National Security, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Education. The first day of the event coincides with the First World Conjoined Twins Day, recently designated by the United Nations as: saudi arabia Initiatives to raise awareness of this cause.
In his opening remarks, HE Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al RabiaHead of the Saudi Conjoined Twin Program, Advisor to the Saudi Royal Court, and Superintendent General of KSrelief, highlighted the program’s surgical and medical team’s commitment to the program. “We all urge the leaders of our beloved countries to continue their humanitarian giving journey and build on decades of scientific experience to help more conjoined twins live healthy and happy lives. The conference will feature a diverse program, including high-level ministerial sessions with leaders of multinational health organizations and ministers from various countries, keynote speeches, and medical presentations by eminent experts in the field. Discussions will cover best practices in the care of conjoined twins, including surgical interventions, maternal care, ethical considerations, and social inclusion.
Notable speakers include Dr Ferris Darko, pediatric neuroradiologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Professor. Ortoin OrtoeChief anesthesiologist at Lurie Children’s Hospital. The event attracted over 500 speakers and participants and represents an important milestone in the field of conjoined twin separation and care.
The first-of-its-kind gathering included surgeons, medical professionals, government and public health officials, and leaders from multinational organizations dedicated to advancing health care and social inclusion for conjoined twins and other vulnerable children.
