Lee McGrath leads American Heart Association’s Puget Sound 2024-25 Go Red for Women® movement
SEATTLE, November 21, 2024 – Lee McGrath, executive vice president of healthcare services for Premera Blue Cross, will serve as the Puget Sound Executive Volunteer Chair for 2024-2025. Go Red for Women® The movement is a comprehensive platform designed more than 20 years ago to raise awareness of women’s heart health and act as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women around the world. As the American Heart Association enters its second century, McGrath said: Puget Sound’s Go Red for Women’s ExperienceThis annual gathering of survivors, donors and volunteers celebrates milestones in the fight against cardiovascular disease and inspires supporters to take action.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death among women, killing more people than all cancers combined, according to the American Heart Association, a global organization that promotes healthy living for all. It’s stealing. Almost 45% of women over the age of 20 have some form of cardiovascular disease[1]. Heart disease and stroke remain the biggest health threat for Puget Sound women.
As the parent of a child with a heart defect, McGrath knows how devastating a heart disease diagnosis can be. She said this experience has left her feeling very alone as a parent, and connection is central to the Go Red Campaign’s leadership.
“The strength of community among women is truly profound,” McGrath said. “I am deeply committed to promoting a place where women can come together, support each other, and find solace in their journey to improve heart and brain health. Parents are never alone. You shouldn’t feel that way. By coming together, we can ensure that all women have access to the compassion, connection, and resources of the American Heart Association.”
The 2025 Go Red for Women Experience will be held on Thursday, March 6th at the King Street Ballroom & Perch at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Seattle. Under McGrath’s leadership, the event raised $1.5 million to advance scientific research and women-focused community programs, highlighting real-life stories of women in the community living with heart disease and stroke. I would like to guess.
