GRAND RAPIDS, MI – A restaurant specializing in special diets is coming to Grand Rapids’ Creston neighborhood.
FIKA, a plant-based, gluten-free brunch spot, will open on Plainfield Avenue in spring 2025.
The restaurant will open in 3,095 square feet on the ground floor of the Lofts on Grove Apartments at 1359 Plainfield Avenue.
FIKA is the latest venture for owners Becca and Nick Van Lier, who already own Rise Authentic Baking Company on Fulton Street.

FIKA serves breakfast and lunch including pancakes, chicken, waffles, fresh salads and sandwiches. In addition to the menu, FIKA will also feature a small market selling deli items and packaged goods. The market offers coffee, tea, and espresso drinks made with Squibb Coffee.
Rise Authentic Baking’s current menu includes items such as the Southwest Breakfast Burrito, Buffalo Chickpea Salad Sandwich, and Breakfast Sandwich with Mung Bean Eggs, Chickpea Sausage, Vegan Cheddar Cheese, and Spicy Mayonnaise on a Sea Salt Bagel It is. Most menu items are around $15 to $17.
“FIKA” is a Swedish tradition that means “coffee break” and is often a social gathering intended to give people a chance to slow down.

The Lofts on Grove building, which houses FIKA, is a four-story mixed-use apartment building. The $24.4 million project includes 110 market-rate apartments above ground-floor retail space. Apartment rentals range from $1,185 to $2,300.
