JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Mike Parson, whose term is coming to an end, is being recognized for his influence during his term.
The Missouri Behavioral Health Council honored Governor Parson with the Mental Health Champion Award.
The council specifically cited the establishment of 21 Behavioral Health Crisis Centers as a reason for awarding Governor Parson this award.
“Law enforcement is allowed in these crisis centers. Just imagine, it takes an average of seven minutes to transport a patient to appropriate behavioral health care versus hours of waiting in the emergency room. In some cases, patients may be transferred to hospital beds or, unfortunately, to prison. So these centers currently serve about 4,000 people a month, and that’s because of Governor Parson. ” said the Council CEO. said Brent McGinty, Chairman and Chairman.
Since its inception in 1978, the council has awarded the award to only about 20 people, and says it only recognizes those who have made extraordinary achievements in the field of mental health.
In their words, “Someone rises to the top and deserves an award. Governor Parsonson has done just that.”
