GULFPORT, Mich. (WLOX) – Coastal Family Health is dedicated to providing health care to people who have no insurance or little insurance.
On Monday, they brought a mobile clinic unit to the North Gulfport Public Library to provide free medical services to those in need.
“So we’re here to provide that medical care. Many homeless people don’t have transportation to go to the doctor, or they make an appointment and don’t keep it,” said HCH Coordinator. said Christy Anderson. “So we provide a service on wheels in case they can’t get to a doctor or a clinic that we run.”
Services include free blood pressure and BMI checks, Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) program application, HCH program health visits, and flu shots.
All services were provided free of charge. Anderson points out that there are eligibility requirements.
“It’s what some people call Double Up or Couchsurfing. If you’ve been doing Double Up or Couchsurfing for less than six months, that’s one aspect or you’re living in a tent on the street. It’s either,” she explained. “This information needs to be verified. So if they are in that situation, we can accept their application and from there determine whether they are eligible for HCH. ”
