Canine health impact research and a change model based on canine healing practices will be presented today at the 18th Annual International Conference on Polar Health in Halifax.

The Canine Roundtable Secretariat says Labrador dogs have historically faced a lack of health care services, and their experience with the health care system is “often fraught with racism and systemic discrimination.” .

Canine Nation has approved a research study commissioned by the Canine Roundtable Secretariat to improve canine health and well-being.

IRTS researcher Dr. Leonor Ward and co-investigator Annie Pickard made the announcement this morning in Halifax.

The report provides what it calls “insights from a dog’s perspective into the power imbalances that drive poor health” and the traditional ways in which Western medicine is typically delivered.

This report suggests that health and social service providers and policy makers are broadening their horizons to consider canine healing as a model for benefiting canine patients.
