This is to inform you that Sector 10 – HPD is hosting a unique conference focused on public policy. better care for our future Envisioning and strengthening Ontario’s public health system.
The post-war social contract, the state’s promise to care for its citizens through public services, is in deep crisis. Our predecessors were able to achieve the early development of public health systems through collective and progressive efforts. Over the past several decades, much of that vision has been suppressed as we have seen the focus of public policy shift to promoting ideologies that serve profit motives more than people. The scale of this decisive change is inherently extraordinary, and Ontarians are hurting. Nowhere is this wound more acutely felt than in the medical system. The intensity has worsened since the pandemic.
This is a time of change, and we must reform, renew and restore public health care that truly serves us. Redirecting an effective public health system in our state requires a new vision and a clearer strategy. We are hosting this gathering to advance progressive reform of Ontario’s health care system in the greater good of the people. Our goal is to move beyond the defensive fight to protect public health insurance from cuts and privatization and develop a concrete plan to truly build a meaningful and sustainable health care system for all Ontarians. The goal is to move forward with collective efforts. This conference is a serious effort to achieve that goal.
