North India’s first government-funded facility accepts 63 students

JAMMU, OCTOBER 25: The newly accredited University of Homeopathy, Kathua has officially received approval to begin its first academic session, representing a significant step forward in the development of healthcare and education in Jammu and Kashmir.

The university was approved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the Ayush Ministry on the request of Dr Jitendra Singh and will enroll its first class of 63 students.
Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Department, announced the news on X and highlighted the importance of this institution in the region.
“It is encouraging news for Kathua and the entire Jammu and Kashmir. The Homeopathy College, sanctioned through the Ministry of Ayush on the request of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had its premises visited on March 10, 2024 and 63 students has been approved to start the first batch,” Dr. Singh wrote.
He expressed hope that the university will set the stage for an era of holistic medicine by integrating alternative and conventional medicine.
During a visit to the project site on March 10, 2024, Dr. Jitendra Singh shared plans for North India’s first government-funded homeopathy facility. The facility has been developed in Jasrota area of Kathua district with central funding of Rs 8,000 crore.
He stressed that the project is a testament to the government’s commitment to alternative medicine and aims to provide affordable treatment options while opening the door for local students to pursue homeopathic medical education.
“Set on an eight-acre site with an additional three acres set aside for future expansion, the university will feature a hospital complex, academic buildings, administrative buildings and separate hostels for male and female students. It is planned,” claimed Dr. Jitendra Singh.
He said the university will be the future academic hub for homeopathy in North India, a field that hitherto lacked extensive educational infrastructure in the region.
“The agency will also provide affordable healthcare to the community, in line with the government’s goal of expanding healthcare access to underserved areas,” said Dr. Jitendra Singh .
“This facility not only opens up new avenues for aspiring doctors, but is also a step towards achieving the goal of holistic medicine,” he said, adding that the new facility will have a positive impact on both students and patients. He emphasized on giving.
Meanwhile, with the approval of the Ministry of Ayush, Principal of Government Homeopathy College Kathua has formally approached the Chairman, Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE), Jammu and informed that the Letter of Permission (LoP) has been granted by the following institutions: I notified you that this happened. In a letter addressed to the BOPEE Chairman, the principal said that with this permission, Government Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Kathua, will enroll 63 students in UG (BHMS) course in the academic session 2024-25. It was claimed that this was allowed. Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Category.
He said the Ayush ministry directive also specifies that 15% of UG seats will be treated as all-India quota and remaining 85% will be allocated through state-level counseling.
The Principal further claimed in the letter that he has requested the Health and Medical Education Administration to approve the inclusion of the new Government Homeopathic Medical College and Kathua Hospital with 63 seats in the BOPEE chairmanship in the upcoming Ayushneet UG (BHMS) counseling. . “In view of this, we request you to include the Government Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Kathua, J&K Jammu in the NEET-UT/AYUSH (BHMS) Counseling which is scheduled to offer BHMS courses starting from January 2015. “The current academic session is 2024-25,” Government Homeopathy College Principal Kathua wrote to the BOPEE Chairman.
