SINGAPORE: Pasir Ris Punggol City Council has posted a notice in this regard after someone installed exercise equipment on a staircase landing in a housing development in Punggol.
Netizen Ben, who writes for local crowdsourcing news site Stomp, wrote about this issue. Equipment photos show a multifunctional wall-mounted pull-up and pull-up bar/dip station.
These are usually sold for indoor home gym training. However, it is placed in a stairwell rather than in someone’s home, and other residents of the building can see the person exercising.
Ben told Stomp that the equipment had been sitting on the stairs for more than six months.
The notice from Pasir Ris Punggol City Council was addressed to people living in Level 25 of Block 423A on North Shore Crescent. He appealed to everyone to “behave respectfully” and “keep the environment safe for everyone.”
Property officers conducted the inspection more than a month ago, on Aug. 27, and noticed “unauthorized items” being placed on “common property” without a valid permit.
Although the town council had asked for items to be removed from the staircase landing at Stairway 3A-1 by Sept. 16, Benn said the exercise equipment was still there as of Sept. 24.
He also questioned why action was not taken sooner, even though Stomp wrote at the end of his report that it was removed shortly after September 24th.
Commenters weren’t too kind to the person who installed the exercise equipment in the first place. “Typical stupid gym buddy,” one person sneered.
Others wonder why the person could not install the device at home.
“I have the exact same equipment installed in my house,” another poster wrote, adding that they installed it in the stairwell outside their apartment and that no one “makes any noise” or complains. Only “stupid” people would think that, he added.
One netizen speculated that the installer didn’t want to drill a hole in his unit, or maybe his parents didn’t allow him to drill a hole. However, one commenter said that this is not unusual for certain HDBs.
However, another netizen joked that the device was just a “common laundry bar”, and netizens wondered why Ben would complain about a “free pull-up bar”. /TISG
