of Southwest Rural Health Research Center in Texas A&M University School of Public Health signed a four-year, $2.8 million collaboration agreement. Established in 2000 as one of six rural health research centers in the country, the center draws on faculty and practice-based expertise within the university. Texas A&M University System and its partners examine the needs of rural populations across the United States.
Through this collaborative agreement, the Center will combine faculty expertise in health policy, chronic disease, health economics, health law, nursing, and epidemiology to address the needs of rural and underserved populations. This will enable us to continue important interdisciplinary research on the subject. The award supports approximately four projects per year selected to inform national policy challenges and reforms related to rural populations.
The agreement will also enable the Center to continue its rich tradition of training students to become versatile contributors to improving the health of rural populations in the future. The center’s graduate students are routinely involved in developing research questions, analyzing data, interpreting results, and disseminating research results.
