  • The Real Housewives of Dubai Star Caroline Stanbury revealed she “vomited” in a bar while taking Ozempic.
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and upset stomach are side effects associated with Ozempic, and taking this medication with alcohol may make these symptoms worse.
  • However, research suggests that Ozempic may also have applications in treating alcohol use disorder.
  • Research suggests the drug may help people reduce their cravings for alcohol.

Speaking at Page Six Virtual Reality Tea Podcasts, The Real Housewives of Dubai Star Caroline Stanberry revealed that her use of Ozempic once caused her to “vomit” at West Hollywood bar The Abbey.

Her admission came in response to host Evan Leal’s admission that he had quit drinking alcohol several months ago because it exacerbated the side effects of his weight loss medication.

Stanberry told the host that she had vomited after drinking a small amount of alcohol.

“You drink half a glass and you literally have no way to run to the toilet,” she laughed.

“If you haven’t vomited from Ozempic, you haven’t lived life yet,” she added.

Paul DidonMD, FASAM, Medical Director True self-healingsaid the reaction between Ozempic and alcohol that Stanberry and Leal experienced is caused by the way the GLP-1 drug works.

Ozempic mimics glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), a hormone that stimulates insulin secretion to regulate blood sugar levels, and it also slows gastric emptying and reduces hunger, which may aid in weight loss.

Slower gastric emptying means food and liquids stay in your stomach longer, which can result in you feeling fuller for longer and possibly even nausea, Didon said.

Another factor that may cause vomiting in people using Ozempic to treat diabetes is the fact that alcohol can cause “dramatic changes” in blood sugar levels.

“Hypoglycemia can occur due to a combination of Ozempic’s blood sugar lowering effects and alcohol’s effect on the same compound,” Didon explained. “Symptoms may include nausea and vomiting.”

Ozempic said, Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) is a medical condition that occurs when a person is unable to control their drinking despite experiencing negative consequences.

for example, Case series Released on November 27, 2023 Journal of Clinical Psychiatryfound that all six weight loss patients who were using semaglutide, a generic version of Ozempic, also experienced a significant reduction in AUD symptoms.

To explain why Ozempic has this effect: Michael VillarrealCADC, CEO Tres Vistas Recoverynoted that studies have shown that GLP-1 receptor agonists like Ozempic affect reward pathways in the brain that may be involved in addictive behavior.

“By altering these neural circuits, Ozempic may attenuate the hedonic effects of alcohol, thereby making it less appealing and promoting abstinence,” he said.

Villarreal further said Ozempic has the ability to induce a feeling of fullness while suppressing cravings.

“[I]”Sometimes when you’re out with friends or trying to deal with stress, you don’t feel like having a drink,” he said.

“This unique property of providing a dual effect on both the physical and mental aspects of addiction makes Ozempic a viable option for people looking to quit or reduce alcohol consumption while managing conditions such as diabetes or obesity,” he concluded.

The Real Housewives of Dubai Star Caroline Stanbury spoke on a recent episode of Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast about experiencing a negative reaction to alcohol after drinking a small amount, and blamed it on her use of Ozempic.

Experts say side effects associated with Ozempic, such as nausea and vomiting, can be made worse by alcohol consumption.

For people with diabetes taking Ozempic, alcohol consumption may cause blood sugar levels to fall further and worsen side effects associated with GLP-1 medications.

But Ozempic is a promising drug for people with alcohol use disorder because it affects reward pathways in the brain, potentially reducing the desire for alcohol. It may also help curb cravings.
