The intestine has to be one of the most complex organ systems in the human body. Some scientists even call it the second brain.

A myriad of microbes live in your gut, and the bacteria that live there play a huge role in not only your health, but your overall health. Digestive organ.

A recent study by scientists at King’s College London showed that a handful of almonds can make your gut healthier.

Almonds promote the production of the short-chain fatty acid butyrate, which improves intestinal health. Experts analyzed the compound’s effect on the composition of good bacteria in the gut.

Scientists and medical professionals are trying to unravel the mechanisms and processes by which the microbiome works in the gut and affects health.

The KCL team recruited 87 adults who were already consuming less fiber than needed and who habitually ate junk foods such as potato chips.

Participants were divided into three groups. One group began consuming 56g of whole almonds per day. Another took 56g of almond powder, and the third started eating an energy-matched muffin in the control group.

results published in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, showed that people who consumed ground almonds or whole almonds were found to produce significantly higher amounts of butyric acid.

Fatty acids are like fuel for colon cells. This compound creates favorable conditions for bacteria and microorganisms to grow and thrive.
