A British man who built an adorable mouse village to cope with depression six years ago has added a pub, bookstore and hobbit house for even more heartwarming photos.

Simon Dell started creating his ‘mini shire’ when he found a wild mouse in his backyard and wanted to protect it from the neighbour’s cats.

Since then, the 50-year-old has started attracting more rats to his upscale rat town built with recycled materials and recycled trash.

Simon records daily village activities through his social media channels (George the Log Cabin Mouse). He has over 150,000 followers.

“Without photography, without the joy of making little things for little things, I could quickly fall into a deep depression,” Simon said.

“Photography gave me a reason to get up and go outside again, and Mouse Village put a smile back on my face.

“I hope it gives others the same joy it gives me.”

In 2018, Simon recalled a time when he was sitting in his garden in South Yorkshire. “On the other side of the fence, I saw a cat sitting a few feet away from this little mouse.”

He stacked some small logs around the box as a house for the mice, covered it with moss and straw to give it a small shelter, and set up wire fencing to keep the cats out.

After building a shelter for the rat he named George, he began building a house next door. Within a few days, several members of the rat family moved in, seeking the creature’s comfort.

Wildlife photographers began adding intricate details to their tiny homes, creating dining tables and giving them props for hobbies such as painting, boating, gardening, and photography.

There are currently about 20 rats, and there are probably two family groups, Simon said. And there have been many changes in the village.

“The only limit is my own imagination and skill in creating new buildings. I handcraft them by recycling old log fragments and anything I find in skips or rubbish that could be given a new life. It’s from.”

“They have converted my old boots into two-legged mouse houses, and there are many other types of houses dotted around the village.

“In fact, we have everything you would find in a village or town.”

He has plans to add a train station, cafe, theater or cinema.

Simon said Mouse Village has given him and his many followers immense joy amid personal struggles.

“I have always struggled with depression, insomnia and anxiety, but they always support me through good times and bad. My photos and videos make me smile every day and help me feel better. Many people find it helps them get high.

“It has always been my goal to make others smile while keeping my mind and body active.”
