A personal trainer who was recording a workout at a gym has come under fire for his “wild” reaction when another gym-goer interrupted his video.
The fitness coach, who posts under the handle @shapebyshiana, caught the attention of gym fans after she shared a clip of herself performing a set of deadlifts.
But the footage went viral for all the wrong reasons after many noticed Sianna chasing away a fellow gym-goer who stepped in front of the camera while trying to grab weights from a nearby rack.
“We’re in the middle of the set,” she said, and the unidentified man visibly backed away.
Joey Swoll, who runs an entire account criticizing “inappropriate” gym etiquette, shared his video with his 7.5 million followers.
“As a personal trainer and coach, I have to set a better example for the gym community,” Swole captioned his video.
After her clip was played, the self-proclaimed “gym positive CEO” publicly condemned her actions on camera.
“Just because you’re filming in the gym doesn’t mean other people have to stop training just for you,” he said.
“This guy is just being nice to you and decided to post this post anyway. Seriously?
“I hope this gym sees this and cheers you up.”
She also mentioned another post shared to her account, in which she said she “humiliated” a man using a treadmill on a steep hill, and she wrote, “This person leaning on a treadmill… Please don’t become one,” he posted with the message.
In just 24 hours, Swole’s video was viewed more than 20 million times and garnered about 20,000 comments.
Most agreed with Ms Swoll, calling for the gym to “ban any kind of recording” and saying they felt “bad” for the man she scolded.
“Oh, I wanted to cry, poor guy,” said one. ️
“He was kinder than I expected,” said another.
One person said: “It made him very sad because he was so kind.”
Another added: “This is so crazy and sad. Bless that man’s heart.”
“People like that are ashamed,” concluded another.
Siana has not responded to the video, but both her Instagram and TikTok accounts have been suspended.
The topic of banning the use of cameras and tripods to film workouts is a hotly debated topic for those who regularly attend fitness facilities.
An Australian gym has said it will “no longer allow” influencers to videotape their workouts due to ongoing privacy and safety concerns.
Doherty’s Gym, which has three locations in Melbourne and one in Perth, took a bold stance on the controversial issue in February.
“It is our duty of care to provide security and privacy to all of our members. Tripods are a travel hazard and a safety concern,” the notice shared on Instagram reads. It’s dark.
Dougherty’s said anyone who wants to film their workout and upload it to social media can purchase a “media pass” from the front desk, provided no one is filmed without their consent.
Gym owner Tony Doherty says: ‘If you have to take a quick video on your phone during a workout, be aware that there is someone behind you and post or share the image if they are. Please obtain consent for this.” “Instead, put down your phone and continue training. This may not be popular with tripod crews, but others will appreciate not having to deal with them.” .
