Zobo leaves recipe for hypertension, heart-related ailments – Expert

Professor Daniel Nwachukwu, Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology and Vice-Chancellor, University of Nigeria Enugu Campus (UNEC), has advised Nigerians to explore the benefits of zobo leaves in the treatment and prevention of hypertension and other heart-related diseases.

Nwachukwu gave the advice at the University of Enugu’s 201st Commemorative Lecture entitled “The Marriage of the Cardiovascular System and Hibiscus sabdariffa (Zobo Leaves): Don’t confuse anyone”.

In his lecture, Mr. Nwachukwu highlighted years of research and discoveries that have shown that Hibiscus sabdariffa (Zobo leaves) is highly effective in managing high blood pressure in hypertensive patients and preventing high blood pressure in other patients. did.

He explained that consuming a moderate amount of zobo leaf liquid extract daily has a balancing and rejuvenating effect on the heart and the entire cardiovascular system.

Nwachukwu pointed out that zobo leaves also have special properties that help regulate blood sugar levels (diabetes) and combat obesity, especially type 2 obesity.

“Hibiscus sabdariffa (zobo leaf) has been shown to support optimal function and vitality of the cardiovascular muscles and systems (the entire heart).

“Through years of research, we have discovered that Hibiscus sabdariffa (Zobo leaves) is more effective than any available antihypertensive medication. Zobo leaves are easily available, inexpensive, and There are no adverse medical effects if taken in appropriate amounts.

“To prepare Hibiscus sabdariffa (zobo leaves) for medicinal properties, just boil the leaves in boiling water, sieve the mixture and drink the resulting drink,” he added.

“Although it has a sour taste, it is best to consume it without any additives as it is the most natural and beneficial for the heart, kidneys and urinary tract.

“We conducted extensive research and clinical trials on Hibiscus sabdariffa (Zobo leaves) and found it to be an ideal choice for heart health,” he said.

However, the professor cautioned against adding fruits such as pineapple or ingredients such as sugar to make it sweeter.

“This is because you end up diluting it so it loses its antihypertensive effect,” he said.

Nwachukwu also called on businessmen to invest in the production of pure Hibiscus sabdarifa (Zobo leaves) products for the health of Nigerians.

The University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Igwe, commended Mr Nwachukwu for delivering an academically enlightening and medically insightful lecture.
