Health officials confirm measles case in Maryland

The Maryland State Department of Health and Montgomery County health officials announced a positive case of measles. Health officials said the Maryland resident recently traveled abroad. Officials said people who visited the following locations during the following times may have been exposed to measles: Washington Dulles International Airport International Terminal Jan. 27 — 6 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Claridge House, 2445 Lyttonsville Road, Silver Spring Jan. 27 — 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Jan. 27 — 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. 29 — 7 to 10 a.m. at Suburban Hospital Emergency Department January. 27 — 7:00 to 11:00 p.m. Early symptoms of measles include a fever of 101 degrees or higher, a runny nose, cough, and red, watery eyes. A red rash usually appears on the face 1 to 4 days after the initial symptoms and may spread to other parts of the body. Generally, a person is considered immune to measles if he has received two measles vaccinations, has had measles before, or was born in 2019. Pediatrician Dr. Scott Krugman said, “The problem is that many people with unvaccinated children are hanging out with people who have other unvaccinated children, so the virus can spread.'' This means that it has become a hotbed for the spread of the disease.” According to health authorities, anyone who was in these areas during the time of potential infection, especially those who are unvaccinated or not immune to measles, will be exposed to measles for 21 days due to possible infection. People who develop a fever or other measles symptoms should avoid going to day care, school, work, or public places and should contact their health care provider. Generally, you are considered immune to measles if you have received two measles vaccinations, have had measles, or were born in the United States before 1957.
