VDH is working to contact all passengers on board with the sick person.
The disease spreads easily through the air when a sick person breathes, coughs, or sneezes. Symptoms include a fever of 101 degrees or higher, runny nose, watery eyes, and cough, and begin 7 to 14 days after exposure. When symptoms begin, a rash appears on the face and may spread to other parts of the body within 3 to 5 days.
The ministry is urging people who have not received the measles or MMR vaccine to be on the lookout for symptoms until January 25. If you develop symptoms, you should isolate and contact your doctor immediately.
According to VDH, 95% of kindergartners have been vaccinated, and most people in the state have been vaccinated. However, infants younger than 12 months are too young to receive the vaccine.
The agency advises health care workers to be on the lookout for reports of illnesses that may be measles. Doctors remind people that measles is a “ready reportable disease.”
