ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — WellNow Urgent Care will no longer accept Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, the health insurance company announced late Sunday night.
Excellus says the news comes after it negotiated a contract with WellNow in good faith to keep WellNow in its network. Those discussions included increasing refunds, but they said WellNow rejected their offer.
Last October, WellNow announced the possibility of discontinuing Excellus due to unfair interest rates. WellNow said he sent Excellus a warning to update “current and renewal reimbursement rates that reflect both the cost and value of the services” provided by WellNow.
After lawmakers urged Excellus CEO Jim Reed to reconsider, Reed said he could not accept WellNow's offer and waged an aggressive campaign against Excellus. Ta.
Excellus says it may continue to use the WellNow service under its plans, but will provide further information if an agreement cannot be reached. BlueCross BlueShield members will now have to pay out of pocket.
