Genetics plays a big role in longevity, but there are healthy habits everyone can adopt to extend their lifespan.
Doctors shared what people should do to reduce the risk of life-shortening diseases.
Dr Peter Attia said it was important to focus on longevity and healthspan so that people could not only live longer but also ensure a high quality of life.
The doctor explained that one of the most beneficial things to prevent disease and extend life is exercise.

“Exercise is arguably the most powerful tool or intervention to influence both the longevity and healthspan indicators that we are interested in,” he said.
“On the longevity side of the equation, having very good cardiovascular fitness and having high muscle mass and strength relative to gender and age are predictors of living longer.
”[This means] All causes of death are significantly reduced…more than anything else we have. ”
He added that the benefits of exercising and keeping your body healthy outweigh the drawbacks of harmful habits such as smoking.
“If all you're thinking about is how to live longer, that's the ticket,” he told PBS.
Doctors said this is also a great tool for improving quality of life.
Exercise is a well-known way to improve health and mobility.

Brits are generally recommended to do 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise a week.
However, recent research suggests that people who do more can live longer.
A study published in the journal Circulation found that people who exercised two to four times more than recommended had a lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
Participants who trained for 300 to 599 minutes experienced the greatest benefits.
