BMC grants Rs 1,500 crore for upcoming healthcare programs

The scheme was launched during the first session of the CII Hospital Tech Summit where Sudhakar Shinde, Additional Municipal Commissioner, BMC, IRS said: . The BMC spends 15 per cent of its budget on health care, which is considerably higher than other states in the country. ”
Shinde further added, “Apart from this, we are expanding our cancer infrastructure by setting up PET scans and various cancer treatment facilities. We are also proceeding with the start of proton beam therapy, which will begin within the next few days.”
The same Rs 1,500 crore budgeted for this initiative will be used for zero prescription policy, cancer infrastructure, diagnostics and surveillance, and upgradation of all BMC hospitals to NABH accreditation within the next year.
The relevance of technology implementation in reducing healthcare costs and the need for public-private collaboration in healthcare data and registry development was highlighted by N Nawin Sona, Principal Secretary, Public Health Department, Government of Maharashtra. He also said that the Maharashtra Digital Health Mission is currently underway and the government is keen to collaborate with the private sector to promote indigenous solutions.
