A father whose family has ADHD said it was “unthinkable” that there was a shortage of drugs to treat ADHD.

Craig Lester, of Chivenor, Devon, and his children Gary and Caitlin have all been diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Medical professionals were notified of the supply disruption in September.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) said the issue was “expected to be resolved by the end of the year”.

“People have no idea what it’s like to live with a child like this,” Lester said.

“If I have to drive six or seven hours to get something, I’ll do it,” he added, adding that he only has enough medication for next month.

Caitlin Lester, 11, said she was “stressed out” by the shortage.

Daughter Caitlin, 11, said it made her “not only stressed, but sometimes scared or just unable to concentrate.”

Henry Shelford, chief executive of ADHD UK, a charity that reduces stigma and funds research, said: “We don’t know what we’re going to find out…It’s really scary and frightening, but you’ve managed to do something about it.” I’m just trying to keep it together.”

A DHSC spokesperson said: “We understand that drug shortages are concerning, but we are working intensively with manufacturers to increase supply and want to reassure patients.” Stated.

“While some of these supply issues have now been resolved, we know that challenges remain for others.”

Patients are encouraged to discuss any concerns with their physician.
