One personal trainer explained why women were crying before a fitness class started.
Jay Harris, 30, from Liverpool city center, is a personal trainer who runs the Crew42 gym near Princes Dock. One of his classes, Fitness Bingo, was born when he was working as a physical education teacher at a school.
The exercises for the day were completely random, with the idea of keeping the class fresh and fun. Speaking to the ECHO, Jay said: That’s when I came up with Fitness Bingo.

“Unbelievable. I never thought the kids would enjoy it so much. When the lockdown happened, I coped online.
“We were offering free training every day. It was several years in the making.”
Jay now directly runs the program, specifically targeting women who are going through menopause. Two years ago, his friend, actor and wellness coach Lindsey Germain, came to him at the gym “a little upset” after struggling with her self-esteem, and he decided to take an in-person class with adults. He says he was moved to run it.
Jay said starting the group wasn’t simple, arguing that fitness classes can be intimidating and lack a way to make exercise fun and positive.
Jay told the ECHO: “At the first session, some people were crying before it started. Now they are regulars who bring their daughters and friends.”
Furthermore, he added: “I think the reason people come back is that they’re great buddies. We do it like one big family. We have people coming from 18 to 65.”
Explaining the difference between Fitness Bingo, he said: We laugh, play games, and play cheesy music. ”
Furthermore, he added: “They come in and don’t know what practice they’re going to do. We also have prizes up for grabs, from pajamas to alcohol. It’s a big laugh, the whole hour is one big laugh.”
Jay’s work was recognized in September last year when Fitness Bingo won Best Fitness Event at the British Fitness Awards. However, the victory was unexpected.
Jay said: “Some of the other nominees were big, big companies, so I never thought I’d win. I was in a daze and don’t even remember going on stage.”
Jay says fitness bingo is the highlight of his week despite his busy schedule of running classes and running his business. he said: “Wednesday nights before class I’m exhausted. When they come, I feel on top of the world. It’s really amazing.”
Looking ahead, Jay aims to build on his recent success. He said, “Winning this award was unbelievable. I never expected something like this to happen, but I will continue to do my best with this momentum.”
