Are there problems filling prescriptions for Vyvanse? Takeda Pharmaceutical, which makes the drug, said inventories remain low due to production delays and rising demand.
Takeda said the delay could affect patients’ ability to fill prescriptions for Vyvanse. Takeda said it was working to replenish supplies as soon as possible.
This shortage is impacting the company’s ability to supply pharmaceutical wholesalers. These wholesalers are those who supply retail pharmacies such as Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid.
Vyvanse shortage schedule
Takeda expects the delay to affect dose strengths of 40mg, 60mg and 70mg.
-
The 40mg concentration supply was expected to run low in mid-June and be replenished in the coming weeks.
-
The 60mg and 70mg strength effects were expected to begin in late June or early July and continue through September.
Takeda said demand for other dose strengths could increase. This can lead to local deficiencies in other strengths.
Takeda said work with your health care provider to consider other treatment options if the supply situation affects you.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and for the potential disruption to your treatment. If your current retail pharmacy is unable to fill Vivancé prescriptions, please let us know of possible alternatives during this period of disruption. We encourage you to contact your healthcare provider,” Takeda said in a statement.
Takeda will bear part of the out-of-pocket expenses
Because Takeda will cover a portion of Vyvanse’s prescription co-payment, the majority of patients will not experience an increase in Vyvanse’s prescription co-payment during periods of supply shortages.
