DENVER — The division that oversees Colorado’s Medicaid program has announced a data breach into a third-party application it uses, exposing the personal information of some people.of Health Policy and Finance Office (HCPF) also oversee Child Health Plan Plus (CHP+) Program Other medical programs for insured residents.
The ministry said it was notified of the potential problem on May 31. Progress Software reported to the ministry that it had discovered an issue affecting the MOVEit Transfer app. IBM, a third-party vendor contracted to HCPF, uses MOVEit to move HCPF data files in its normal course of business, HCPF said.
After the investigation began, the HCPF said it found that health information for some users of HealthFirst Colorado and CHP+ was accessed by “fraudsters” around May 28.
The information obtained may include:
- full name
- social security number
- Medicaid and Medicare ID Numbers
- date of birth
- Home address and other contact information
- demographic or income information;
- Clinical and medical information, such as diagnoses and conditions, test results, medication and treatment information
- Health insurance information
As a result of the breach, the HCPF and its vendors are reviewing their policies, procedures and cybersecurity safeguards, the ministry said.
Anyone who has not been notified but believes they may have been affected should call HCPF 833-346 Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call -1583. The caller must provide the engagement number B100639.
HCPF announced that it will offer potentially affected users two years of free credit monitoring and identity recovery services through Experian.
HCPF said neither its own systems nor those in Colorado were affected by the breach.
