‘I Need the Exercise’ After Rowing With Navy

Natural athlete! prince william He participated in rigorous boating exercises with members of the Royal Navy, all for a vital purpose.

“I have joined the past, present and future crew of HMS Audacious for a very important conversation about mental health,” Prince of Wales, 40, captioned Sunday, May 21. bottom. Instagram video. “For #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, we took to the water to discuss everything from teamwork to food distribution to what it takes to care for your mental health while paddling across the Atlantic.”

“You can see that it’s not really that big,” joked William, who sat in the middle of the four-person boat while out and about.

The Duke of Cornwall looked athletic in a blue pullover and dark shorts, sunglasses and sneakers. While rowing, William asked the group about their racing experience and the importance of prioritizing mental health. By the end of the voyage, the party returned a question to the Duke, asking how he felt about joining them at sea.

“good! [It was] It’s a good warm-up,” William said with a laugh. “I need exercise, good!”

William has learned a lot from the HMS Audacious crew, especially about prioritizing physical fitness and how to balance mental health.

“Submarine service requires a certain mental attitude to work,” the Duke of Cambridge, who previously served in the British military as a pilot, said in a video on Sunday. “You are stuck in a metal tube for months and lose much of the fun in life. You have no sunlight. [or] fresh air. ”

He continued: “It’s important to understand our support network because a lot of people don’t have one. We understand that the way to do this is to help and support each other.”

William, along with his wife, Kate, 41, have long advocated for mental health platforms, especially as veterans.

“The relationship between work and my personal life really pushed me to the breaking point,” he said at the This Can Happen conference in November 2018. And I became very sad and very depressed about this family. ”

The prince, who has three children with the Princess of Wales, also explained that “a traumatic job involving children” had taken its toll. “You get rid of some of the work and start keeping it in your body,” William added at the time. “Of course you wouldn’t want to share it with your loved ones just because you don’t want to take that stuff home.”
