What is the Flexitarian Diet?

His Dr. Pasi, nutrition consultant for his MyThali program at Arogya World, explains that the program is based on the following principles:

1. Eat mostly fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, nuts, seeds, herbs, and seasonings.
2. Eat meat and animal products occasionally. Lean meat and fish are preferable.
3. Focus on plant proteins such as soy, legumes, and quinoa, rather than animal proteins.
4. Eat more natural forms of food and less processed foods.

Dr. Pasi believes this is most likely because plant-based foods are rich in fiber, minerals, vitamins and antioxidants.

Fruits and vegetables are low in calories but high in fiber, which makes you feel full and satisfied. Some studies have shown that people on a plant-based diet are more likely to lose weight than meat eaters. Additionally, plant foods typically fill you up more than animal foods, which can help reduce your overall calorie intake.

4. Reduction of environmental load

A plant-based diet can have a lower environmental impact than a meat-based diet. “Plant-based foods require fewer resources to produce, such as water and land, and produce less greenhouse gas emissions than animal-based foods,” he says.
