We turn to social media apps like TikTok for many reasons. One of the hottest topics these days is the health benefits of magnesium. Ultimately, experts agree with what you might be seeing, but there are a few caveats.
For those looking to magnesium and its benefits through viral TikTok videos, nutritionist Kimberly Snodgrass has some advice.
“If you really want a professional, you should consult a nutritionist,” Snodgrass said.
Not only is magnesium good for your body, she said, it’s good for your heart and makes you feel better.
“Dark leafy greens, including nuts, seeds, dried beans and whole grains, are very good sources of magnesium,” Snodgrass said. You don’t need to supplement if you’re eating
You may not have enough nutrients.
“Typically, people with celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, and chronic alcoholics have magnesium deficiency. “Once the numbness, tingling and seizures start, it gets really bad. Like I said, see a nutritionist too. She will educate you and your doctor and guide you.”
She also warned that too much magnesium is also a concern.
“If you take too much, you get diarrhea and cramps that no one wants,” Snodgrass said.
