One of the many reasons people with depression want to hide what they really feel is the guilt and shame usually associated with the condition. They also feel that what they are going through is not understood and they may feel completely alone. “Some people hide their symptoms because they don’t want to worry their loved ones. Some people are too embarrassed to ask for help. Others struggle with perfectionism. Hide your psychological symptoms and only share your physical symptoms. People with depression may not like interacting with people, but instead of giving the right reasons, they may say they are not feeling well.



Hide the pile of work you didn’t have the energy to do. People with depression have very low energy and may procrastinate on daily chores. However, they hide their inability to manage all the work piled up because they are unwilling to share this with you.

“In fact, we all feel a strong urge to hide what makes us feel most vulnerable. It feels like protection. But shame and loneliness thrive in the dark.” says Dr Smith.
