Al Roker is using ‘exercise snacking’ to stay in top shape

Al Roker has revealed he’s using an ‘exercise snack’ method to stay in shape as he faces a third knee surgery in four months following a life-threatening health scare .

Today’s host, the 68-year-old, is an avid walker but relies on taking small increments throughout the day to reach her fitness goals before undergoing knee replacement surgery in late April.

“I got a shot in my knee,” he explained on Tuesday’s show. “I can’t walk normally.”

Roker told co-host Dylan Dreyer that he was walking on the treadmills in the changing rooms and using the NBC Fitness Center for the first time since the pandemic.

Roker celebrated walking a whopping 13,667 steps on his “hip knee” this week.

He took to Instagram on Tuesday to post a photo of his Apple Watch showing the number of steps he’d taken the day before.

“Yesterday was the best day when it came to this #bumknee step before having a knee replacement in late April,” Roker wrote in the caption.

In 2001, Roker required surgery on his left knee due to lingering injuries from a car accident that were exacerbated by his struggle with weight.

He also shared footage of himself trying on old Levi’s that easily slip off without unbuttoning them.

Roker maintains his weight with regular exercise, including power walking and a healthy low-carb diet.

Last June he shared what he has I lost about 45 pounds by combining a daily walking routine with a low-carb diet.

“Do exercise, not extreme exercise. We do the 30-day walking challenge. I think it improves your mental health,” he said on the show.

Roker faced a life-threatening health scare At the end of last year, after suffering from blood clots and internal bleeding,

he I underwent nearly seven hours of emergency surgery to treat two bleeding ulcers. Doctors had to remove his colon, remove his gallbladder, and repair a tear in the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine that leads to the stomach.

Roker triumphantly returned to the Today Show on Jan. 6 after a two-month medical leave that included a total of four weeks of hospitalization.

“My doctor said it was because walking and cardio probably saved my life,” he explained.
